Promoting cross-company co-operation
A Project Days event focusing on cross-company cooperation among ten Hettich Group apprentices took place for the second time at Hettich’s die-casting and injection moulding plant in Frankenberg from 21 to 24 November 2011. In particular, the junior staff got to know the significance of working together on a co-ordinated basis in complex structures.
After the joint project started in 2010 at company headquarters in Kirchlengern, the pneumatic press that was constructed at the time has now been given a gripper and control panel in Frankenberg. Before the project comes to an end in 2013, the aim is to produce a cube sorting facility at Hettich Franke GmbH & Co. KG in Balingen that is to be used for instruction purposes at Hettich’s different operations.
For the Project Days event, the apprentices from Balingen, Berlin, Frankenberg and Kirchlengern had prepared components that were to be brought together to produce an assembly. “The organisation involved taught the apprentices that timing the various work operations demands thorough planning and coordination”, says Frank Fischer, instructor at Hettich. The apprentices soon realised that for work in the project to be successful, communication has to be transparent, comments instructor Andreas Krause.
At the end of the Project Days event, the young staff presented their work to Dr. Dieter Wirths, member of the Management Board, Uwe Kleemann, Managing Director of Hettich’s die-casting and injection-moulding plant, and Hans Riepe, Chief Instructor at Paul Hettich GmbH & Co. KG. The results left no margin of doubt and everyone involved is now looking forward to the further stages in the project that will be continued at Hettich in Berlin in 2012.
In Frankenberg, the apprentices also became acquainted with Ewikon Heisskanalsysteme GmbH, a company that makes special machinery, the Thonet Museum, the Kellerwald National Park Centre as well as the mediaeval town of Frankenberg with its many half-timbered houses.
