The first pilot factory for the production of nano cellulose in world was inaugurated by the Innventia company in Stockholm, Sweden. Factory makes possible a large-scale production of nano cellulose and represents an important step towards the industrialization of an energy-efficient production process, company officials said.
"The high volumes allows us to study the use of nano cellulose in applications that require more material", declared Michael Ankerfors, Research Manager at Innventia. Nano Cellulose is a material derived from wood fiber, and, unlike other fossil fuel based products, it is 100% renewable. In the past, the manufacturing process of nanocelulose consumed a large amount of energy. Thanks to research work provided by Innventia, consumption was reduced by up to 98%, saving 29,000 kWh / tone.
To produce paper or other materials, the raw material developed in the lab is not enough. New 'pilot' factory can manufacture 100kg/day. "We can perform tests in our paper factory. We can also continue developing the production process and show those interested how it works.” Innventia AB is a world leader in research and product development related to products like pulp, paper, packaging and bio-finishing.
