Exports of wood pellets from North America to Europe reached 1.6 million tons last year, according to North American Wood Fiber Review.
Compared with figures recorded in 2008, these new figures represent a doubled volume. Canada was the main supplier of wood pellets to Europe in the last 10 years, reaching a total volume of 1 million tons in 2010. U.S. exports to Europe began in 2008 with 85,000 tonnes of timber exported to the Netherlands. Since then, have exported about 600,000 tonnes.
Most North American pellets are delivered to the Netherlands (50%), United Kingdom (33%) and occasionally to Belgium, Sweden and Denmark. |
