Some businessmen are planning to build a new multifunctional amphitheatre in Quebec. It must host sports events and shows.
There is the possibility of building the new amphitheatre in wood, but this thing is facing some prejudices, although it does not involves higher prices. “I can understand Mr. Labeaume who says: “I don’t want this thing cost me too much”. But, this is a reaction in keeping with a lack of knowledge of wooden material. I think we can get to building costs compared to steel and concrete. But…people have prejudices”, has declared the other day Andre Tremblay, the new president – general manager of Forestry Industry Council from Quebec.
He is also affirming that the society from Quebec has a great opportunity to bring out its qualities through this important wooden building. “It is like Jean Charest said, the wood is an ecological material. And we have at this time a special opportunity to return at our culture of using wood…We have lost the notion of the meaning of wooden construction and we have this opportunity to prove what we can realize with it.
The mayor Regis Labeaume has confessed his concern in regard to the higher costs that wood could involve. “If this thing will cost a lot, we will not realize the construction in wood.
Lots of northern countries have chosen the wooden structure for building the amphitheatres or Olympic stadiums, among Finland (Joensuu Arena), Austria (Salzburgarena), and the stadium from Lisbon, Portugal.
Among the recent wooden constructions located in Quebec are the stadium Chauveau, the sportive center Bois-de-Boulogne from Laval, the stadium College Marie-Victorin from Montreal and the future stadium Peps from Quebec.
