The wood industry is settling after more years of stagnation. The Canadian industry of wood products should increase its production of 10,6%.
In its last note, acknowledged to this industry, the research organization explains this development through the increase of the demands on American market and through exportations to China. “After 3 years of loss, the industry has taken advantage of the demands that have been in their favor”, said Jacqueline Palladini, economist at Conference Board.
The wood products industry will develop this year for the first time after 2004 and it should reach the limit of 476M$ in 2010.
However, “this will continue even in 2011, but the rhythm of development will slow down”, warned Ms. Palladini, who estimates that the future is uncertain, due to the economical situation. Between 2000 and 2010, the Canadian exportations to China have increased. Thus, Canada has replaced Russia, becoming the main exporter of whitewood timber to China.
