To survive the current difficult time or use, for example, the prices decline in construction sector, the forest owners began actively to sell their forest lands.
The Estonian forest owners hope that the state will also begin to sell forests to revive the situation in forestry. In Estonia there are 2,4 million acres of forests and the forests cover more than a half of the country. 10 percent are under strict protection and the cutting is forbidden.
The Union of forest owners suggested the Government to increase the sales of forest land reserve. That would revive the forestry, because the customers want to recoup their money. This improvement will revive the forest industry, because the amount of timber for sale also will increase.
The growth of supply will inevitably decline the prices and this will improve the competitiveness of Estonian wood industry. The bulk of production is exported to Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
