Forest afforestation and polution are Romania’s main environmental problems, according to a pro bono study issued by the Synovate Company for WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Romania.
Thus, more than half of the persons that intend to donate money for future environmental causes feel that protecting forests is an important cause, for which they would donate money, and more than a third would donate funds for problems like waste management and the protection of the Danube river.
The study also shows thar air and water polution, industrial polution, the lack of parks and green spaces, as well as the threats of endangered species, also represents cause of concern for Romanians.
Romania owns 300. 000 hectares of natural intact forests, and one of the main objectives of WWF in Romania is to conserve these areas by promoting and adopting a sustainable forestry management, which would bring long term benefits for the people as well as the environment.
The same study reveals that almost half of the interviewd persons have never donated and do not intend to so in the future, saying that the main reason is the lack of money and trust that the money will indeed reach their destination.
The document also shows that, for the Romanians, the issue of global warming and that of climate changes are not considered an environmental priority for the country.
„One of the most important events organised by WWF globaly, Ora Pamantului (Earth Hour), will also take place this year, on March 27. For one hour, starting with 20. 30, people from all over the world will turn off their lights in order to mark the ever growing concern for finding an answer for climate change”, the study sais.
