As a result of the restituition of forests, currenlty aproximately 76% of the forestry surface is owned by the state, 14% is under the property of municipalities, churces and schools and the rest of 10% is considered private properties.
Private forests ocupy small surfaces and are relatively fragmented.
The National Forestry Agency governs the forestry fund and is structured in 3 levels: the National Forestry Agency, Regional Forestry Directories (16), state forestry companies (141) and government hunting companies (37). The last two are responsible for managing the forestry fund and for implementating forestry management.
Harvesting, wood manufacturing and the wood industry are included in the private sector and accout for 2.5% of the country`s PIB.
