In the last years the number of the European companies from the energy sector has grown fast, and the investments in the renewable energy set records every year. In Romania especially the hydropower market is highly developed from the renewable energy sources. For the second time, international and national experts meet in order to exchange know-how, present experiences from the practice and offer advice gained through research and development at the 2nd International Conference: Small Hydropower Plants in Romania, on the 13th November 2009.
Being the second renewable energy source of the World and the most important renewable energy source of Romania, there has lately been invested in hydropower. During the last decade there have been implemented new techniques of SHP: axial double control turbines for head plants have been used, remote control and computer assisted management of stations and units and many others. Romania`s commitment to the European Union is to reach the target of 33% consume of renewable energy by 2010. A strategy has been developed to increase the countries hydropower potential usage by building new production capacities, from about 48% in 2005 to about 62% in 2025. Part of the strategy is the private capital attraction into the development and refurbishment projects. The leading hydropower company of Romania, Hidroelectrica, is committed to increase the installed capacity by 6% until 2011, by commissioning 400MW and additionally by rehabilitation and the transfer of some unfinished objectives to private property.
By such perspectives, REECO, together with the European Small Hydropower Association, ESHA, set out its duty to organise the “2nd International Conference: Small Hydropower in Romania”. International speakers from five contries will present papers regarding: the further development of SHP on Balkan region, experiences of a hydropower project developer, renovation of old SHP in Romania, the streammap project and many others. Between others, Bernhard Pelikan, president of ESHA, Dr. Vladimir KERCAN, director of Turboistitute, Ljubljana, Ian TOSNAR, director of Hydropol, Czech Republic, Dipl. Ing. Hannes POSCH, CEO of Clean Energy Project GmbH will bring the latest innovations, practical examples and know-how to the conference.
The RENEXPO® South-East Europe 2009, International Trade Fair for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficient Construction and Renovation will take place in parallel with the conference.
There are expected 70 exhibitors form the field of hydropower, biomass, bioenergy, biogas, wind energy, solar power, cogeneration, waste to energy, passive and low energy houses, geothermal energy, energy efficient construction and renovation, heat pumps.
