Staff reductions affect the forest industry in Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk areas of the Irkutsk region. Until the spring of 2009, at the Bratsk timber sawmill is planned to cut 176 people.
The company «Spetsavtotrans» will reduced approximately 120 people, 86 employees being already forced to leave with two-thirds of the average wage. As a sister branch, «Ilim Group» cut, in January, 10 people; in February – 20, in March - 30. 172 staff sent to a forced leave with pay two-thirds of the average wage.
At the Ust-Ilimsk sawmill, since 5 March 2009 will be reduced 242 men. The factory installed new shift schedules, many professionals are translated into working position.
At the Mechanical plant from 1 December 2008, workers have moved to 3-day working week. From 1 April 2009 the company plans are to release 173 units of staffing.
Sergei Pivatov, chairman of the Irkutsk regional trade union organizations of workers in the timber industry showed that during the economic crisis the transition to half-time working week, of course, is preferable than the decrease of employees from the timber industry. But there are companies where the cuts did not happend, it is «Ust-Ilimsk enterprise railway», Ust-Ilimsk timber plant and «Ilimtehnoservis».
According to the projects of the trade union representatives, soon will be out of work more than 6 thousand residents of the Irkutsk region. Staff reductions will progress in more than 20 company region.
