42% of EU’s territory is covered by forests..
Latvia’s surface is 51% covered by forests. This country occupies the 6 position in the EU’s classification of most afforestated countries.
A raport issued in 2005 estimated that the whole EU owns aproximately 177 millions hectares of forests. 13 millions are owned by Sweden, 28 millions by Spain and 23 millions by Finland.
Of the Baltic Countries, Latvia owns the most forests. This country produces aproximately 12.8 millions m³ timber/year, occupying number 6 in the EU classification.
Yet, Latvia is one of the most ecological european countries
